Publicis Foundation is launching Working With Cancer initiative to erase the stigma of cancer in the workplace

In a world where one in every two people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime the Publicis Foundation is launching the first cross-industry coalition to erase the stigma of cancer in the workplace. Arthur Sadoun, our CEO at Publicis Groupe was diagnosed and treated for cancer. After making his condition public, he received thousands of testimonies that exposed the fear those with cancer experienced, not only for their lives, but also for their jobs. Raising awareness to the issue is tremendously important: researchers say that 50% of cancer patients are afraid to tell their employer about their diagnosis, despite 92% feeling that support at work positively impacts their health.

A Wake-up call for raising awareness for workplace support

On World Cancer Day, Publicis Foundation issued a wake-up call under the Working With Cancer initiative with a campaign film, ‘Monday’ which depicts the often harrowing journey of cancer patients and the vital importance of workplace support. It is anchored in the stark reality that half of us will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetime, so all of us have a responsibility to support cancer patients at work. Many of the crew behind ‘Monday’ are cancer survivors and caregivers themselves, bringing personal and authentic resonance to a film that highlights a universal issue.

Because driving social change in the workplace can often take years, Publicis Groupe is harnessing the power of creativity and mass media to accelerate momentum and adoption. A fully integrated campaign supported by $100m in media generously donated by partners such as Disney/ABC, NBCU, Warner Bros Discovery, Paramount, Fox, Tiktok, YouTube, etc. who are contributing 1bn impression, will ensure this wake-up call is heard by all. Publicis Groupe will also contribute by becoming the first holding company to purchase and invest in a Super Bowl spot.

A pledge for supportive work cultures

Also in partnership with the World Economic Forum Working with Cancer launched a pledge rallying some of the world’s most influential companies around the commitment to building the most open, supportive and recovery-forward work cultures for their employees. We would like to invite every business, big and small, across the globe to join the movement at https://workingwithcancerpledge.com/ and outline their own commitments to cancer patients in their organizations.
